Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Standards

(Amended July 1, 2011)

To be academically eligible for Student Financial Assistance, a student must be making satisfactory academic progress toward their degree or certificate program.  To accurately measure a student's progress in their program, the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College (DSLCC) Financial Aid Policy of Satisfactory Academic Progress will incorporate a qualitative measure of progress as well as a quantitative measure of progress.

Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy

  1. Federal Law requires DSLCC to have a SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress) policy.
  2. Too many withdrawals (grades of W), are the #1 reason for student's losing their eligibility for financial aid.
  3. You must pass Three (3) SAP criteria to get aid. These guidelines must cover all periods of enrollment regardless of whether or not you have received financial aid in the past.
    1. Complete 67% of all courses attempted with grades of A,B,C,D,S, or P.
    2. Have a cumulative grade point average requirement of:
Credit Hours Attempted Minimum Expected GPA
1-15 1.5
16-30 1.75
31 + 2.0
    1. Not exceed 150% of the credit hours required to graduate from your academic program. Example: If the total credits in your degree plan are 66, then your 150% max is 99. (66 * 1.5 = 99).
