Workplace Success Workshops

Professional Polish + Business Savvy = Workplace Success!

For job-seekers or anyone thinking about advancing in a career, this series of evening workshops is a must! These workshops are being offered at no cost for any enrolled DSLCC student in Occupational/Technical or Arts and

Sciences programs. The instructor, Dianne Garcia, is a certified Tea and Etiquette consultant, and an Experiential Learning /Job Placement Coordinator at DSLCC.

 

The workshops are also being offered to the general public for $35 for all four, or $10 apiece. The series schedule:

Mondays on the DSLCC Clifton Forge campus:

Jan. 14, Feb. 11, March 4, April 8

Tuesdays at the DSLCC Rockbridge Regional Center:

Jan. 15, Feb. 12, March 5, April 9.

 

All participants must register through the DSLCC Non-Credit program by contacting Non-Credit Coordinator Judy Clark at (540) 863-2863 or emailing jclark@dslcc.edu. DSLCC students may register in Student Services on the DSLCC campus in Clifton Forge or at the DSLCC Rockbridge Regional Center in Buena Vista.  The schedule:

“First Impressions”

An interactive and memorable presentation which includes the seven ingredients for a great introduction and first impression skills! Prepare for a successful and confident interview and workplace experience. Topics include: Great introductions; working a room; introducing others and handshaking; and the ultimatebusiness greeting.

“Writing Resumes and Cover Letters”

Tell your story in a resume! How long, what to include, how to sell yourself in a few words, what type of resume should you use?  This workshop will give you the information you need to present an efficient, professional, eye -catching, successful resume and cover letter. Samples will be used to critique for positives and negatives in a resumes. And… learn to proof your own resume!

“Interview Skills”

Fifteen percent of the reason you get a job, keep a job and advance in a job are your technical skills. The other 85 percent  are the “soft” skills and behaviors you exhibit in an interview and in the workplace. Topics will include how to be prepared for the most commonly asked interview questions; how hard-to-answer questions can be turned into a positive; behaviors to avoid before during and after the interview; tips for the telephone interview. This workshop is “must” for the job seeker.

“Dress for Success”

The way you dress is a reflection of the image you want to portray.  Do you want to look like a successful, confident employee or a down-trodden, I-really-don’t-want-to-be here employee?  How do you dress if you want to advance in a job? How do you dress if you really want a job? Learn the do‘s and don’ts of dressing for the workforce. Dress and appearance can help determine your success in the work place!
