John J. Rainone, Ed.D.
President, Dabney S. Lancaster Community College
Dr. John J. Rainone became the fourth president of Dabney S. Lancaster Community College on July 8, 2013. He brings over 26 years of experience as a teacher, administrator and chief executive officer to this College.
Dr. Rainone graduated from Southern New Hampshire University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Communications in 1981 and a Master of Science in Business Education in 1990. In 1999, he earned a doctoral degree from Nova Southeastern University in Higher Education Leadership with a focus in community colleges.
A native of Providence, Rhode Island, he began his professional career as the training administrator for Associated Builders & Contractors in New Hampshire providing workforce training and education for association members. He became the Assistant Dean of Community Education for New Hampshire Technical College in 1989 focusing on the workforce development and training needs for the college service area.
In 1995, Dr. Rainone moved to Maine to help begin the newly created York County Community College where he served as Assistant Dean of Continuing Education, Dean of Professional Development and Business Services, Interim Dean of Academic Programs, Interim Dean of Finance & Administration and Dean of Institutional Advancement/Executive Director of the College's Foundation.
Dr. Rainone's teaching experience includes 26 years of service as an adjunct faculty member at Manchester Community College, Southern New Hampshire University Graduate School, and York County Community College in the areas of leadership, business research methods, teaching at the college level, and organizational behavior.
He is an honorary member of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society and is also a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), the internationally-recognized professional credential for philanthropic fundraising executives.
Dr. Rainone has served as National President of the Council for Resource Development (CRD), a 1,700 member affiliate council of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), serving community college resource professionals, presidents, and trustees. In addition, Dr. Rainone has served as a judge at the Community College Futures Assembly and as an evaluator for the New England Association of Schools & Colleges.
Currently, he serves on the AACC Commission for Communications and Marketing, the Executive Committee for the Alleghany Highlands Economic Development Corporation, and on the board of the Roanoke Regional Partnership. He is also a Rotarian in the Covington-Hot Springs Club and currently serves as President.
In 2010, Dr. Rainone received the Alumni Distinguished Service Award from Southern New Hampshire University, recognized in 2012 by the Seacoast (Maine and New Hampshire) Media Group as a Mover and Shaker, and selected in 2013 as the Rotarian of the Decade by Rotary District 7780.
Dr. Rainone is married to Laura Rainone and has one daughter, Julianne.
