"Building Futures . . . . . Building Lives

. . . Building Hope"

Mission

A non-profit organization established in 1980, the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Educational Foundation's mission is to support Dabney S. Lancaster Community College by helping to provide an accessible, quality education for students in the College's service area.  The Foundation also provides faculty grants and helps the College in the purchase of up-to-date technology for the classroom.

Who We Are

The DSLCC Educational Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of representatives of the counties and cities of the College’s service area--Alleghany, Bath, northern Botetourt, and Rockbridge Counties and the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, and Lexington--who volunteer their expertise and service on behalf of the College and the community.

What We Do

The Foundation receives private contributions from individuals, businesses, organizations, and foundations, which then are managed and invested.  The interest and dividends generated by the funds are used to benefit Dabney S. Lancaster Community College through support for the following:

    • Scholarships for talented, deserving students who, otherwise, would not be able to fulfill their dream of a college education

    • Industry-standard equipment and training models for students, which allows the College to offer training on equipment similar or identical to equipment required in the workplace

    • Faculty grants that encourage faculty members to enhance and broaden their expertise through educational experiences both here and abroad.

Gifts and contributions to the Foundation are tax deductible for the donor and can be made in the form of money, negotiable securities, charitible trusts, equipment, supplies, real estate or buildings.  Donors can name the Foundation in estate planning and as a beneficiary of insurance policies.  Memorial funds can be established through the Foundation on behalf of individuals and families.

Our Goals

The Educational Foundation seeks to strengthen the College by:

  • Assisting the College in providing accessible, quality   educational  programs.
  • Enhancing community awareness
  • Promoting goodwill in the community by building relationships  with individuals, businesses and organizations
  • Securing private contributions, bequests and donations
  • Accounting for managing and appreciating monies or property donated to the Foundation

Scholarships

Each year the Foundation awards thousands of dollars in merit scholarships to deserving and talented students who desire to attend DSLCC.  Since 1980, due to the generosity of our donors, over 860 student scholarships, worth nearly $875,000 have been awarded to students from Alleghany, Bath County, Covington, James River, Parry McCluer, and Rockbridge County High Schools.

Each scholarship has special requirements as established by the donor's wishes; for example, some may have specific curriculum requirements while others have residential requirements.   Although a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 is required for most scholarships, some require a higher or lower GPA.
