Established in 1980 as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, the Dabney S. Lancaster community College Educational Foundation, Inc., exists solely to support and promote Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. Although fiscalyl and organizationally separate from the College, the Educational Foundation partners with the college to change the lives of area citizens by enabling them to successfully pursue post-secondary education, achieve positive life outcomes, and to build brighter futures.

 

Mission

The Educational Foundation’s primary focus is to keep education affordable through the awarding of student scholarships; however, the Foundation also supports the college through the purchase of up-to-date technology and other equipment for classrooms and student programs. 

Each year the Foundation awards thousands of dollars in merit and need-based scholarships to deserving and talented students who desire to attend DSLCC. Since 1980, due to the generosity of our donors, nearly 1000 student scholarships, worth more than $1 million have been awarded to students from Alleghany, Bath County, Covington, James River, Parry McCluer, and Rockbridge County High Schools.

Who We Are

The DSLCC Educational Foundation is governed by a volunteer board of community leaders. Education Foundation activities are centered on adding funds for student aid, increasing the endowment, and promoting goodwill in the community. The generous investments made by individuals, businesses, and organizations allows the College and Educational Foundation to meet the educational challenges of the 21st century as they encourage a regional vitality powered by an educated citizenry and workforce.

What We Do

The Foundation receives private contributions from individuals, businesses, organizations, and foundations, which then are managed and invested.  The interest and dividends generated by the funds are used to benefit Dabney S. Lancaster Community College through support for the following:

    • Scholarships for talented, deserving students who, otherwise, would be unable to fulfill their dream of a college education

    • Industry-standard equipment and training models for students, which allows the College to offer training on equipment similar or identical to equipment required in the workplace

    • Faculty grants that encourage faculty members to enhance and broaden their expertise through educational experiences both here and abroad.
     

Gifts and contributions to the Foundation are tax deductible for the donor and can be made in the form of money, negotiable securities, charitable trusts, equipment, supplies, real estate or buildings.  Donors can name the Foundation in estate planning and as a beneficiary of insurance policies.  Memorial funds can be established through the Foundation on behalf of individuals and families.
