Penny Fauber, PhD, RN
I am the Program Head and Coordinator of the Practical Nursing Program in the Rockbridge area.
This program, formerly known as the Stonewall Jackson Hospital School of Practical Nursing began in 1964 and graduated its last class in June 2010. I was the school's Director of Nursing for 23 years and joined the faculty of DSLCC in July 2010.
I received my diploma as a Registered Nurse from Lynchburg General Hospital and my Bachelor's of Science degree from Lynchburg College.
Florence Nightingale and her holistic approach to nursing has been an inspiration to me during my nursing career.
Prior to becoming a practical nurse educator, I worked in several nursing areas at Stonewall Jackson Hospital, including nursing supervisor, head nurse of medical unit, and head nurse of the emergency department. I also have experience as a traveling nurse, office nurse, and tutor for registered nursing students.
I am a major contributor to NCLEX style review questions for Assessment Technologies Inc. (ATI) and have written a practical nurse nutrition review textbook.
When not involved in teaching nursing, I enjoy reading a wide variety of books, spending time with my son, and attending all sorts of musical concerts.
I am a member of the following:
- American Holistic Nursing Association
- National Association of Practical Nurse Education and Service
- Council of Practical Nurse Educators
- Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing
