General Information

The Sustainable Agriculture & Horticulture program provides students with a high-quality, horticultural education including basic skills, advanced crop production and greenhouse plant production and management while emphasizing beneficial sustainable methods. Those who complete this program will be well prepared and equipped with the appropriate knowledge and skill set to satisfy the increasing demand in horticultural and agricultural job positions.

The Sustainable Agriculture & Horticulture Certificate Program is comprised of plant production and propagation courses, in-depth greenhouse crop production and management techniques and essential aspects with a high-value agriculture focus. New technological advances in precision agriculture will continually be introduced at DSLCC and utilized on-campus for research and educational purposes.

Employment Outlook

Demand for trained horticulture professionals is strong and is continuing to gain momentum, alongside the increase in public awareness and concern of practices in the U. S. food system and demands in landscape design and management. According to the U. S. Department of Labor, employment is expected in increase 12.4 percent by 2022.
