Historical Voices -- A "fully searchable online database of spoken word collections spanning the 20th century." It also includes research and an educators' forum, and plans to include guidelines for Best Practices.
New York Public Library Digital Gallery -- Free access to over 275,000 images digitized from the collections of the New York Public Library.
Old Pictures -- The Old Picture internet site features an extensive collection of historical photographs taken from the years 1850 to 1940.
Picture History -- A "couple of thousand of the most important photos of the past 150 years," though who did the selection is not made clear. Search the collection or browse through collections on African-Americans, the [US] Civil War, the Old West, artifacts and relics, etc.
Project Gutenberg -- Not a new site; actually, one of the first established to digitize the classics of the world. So there's 13,000 individual titles available thus far in this virtual library.
University of Virginia Electronic Text Center -- amazing! Browse collections by language: Apache, Chinese, English, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Latvian, Russian, Spanish, Tibetan.
