Student Eligibility Criteria
For Credit Classes
- Meet all federal eligibility criteria
- Be degree or certificate seeking
- Demonstrate financial need
- Be unemployed/dislocated as a result of a layoff
- Be underemployed (working part-time, working two jobs, working below capacity)determined and documented by a college official
- Be age 18 or older (must provide documentation)
- Not already receiving a source of funding; only applicable to tuition, fee, and books that fully covers those expenses (i.e. all state programs)
- May possess a bachelor’s degree
For Non-Credit Classes
- Meet all federal eligibility criteria
- Be unemployed/dislocated as a result of a layoff
- Be underemployed (working part-time, working two jobs, working below capacity)determined and documented by a college official
- Be age 18 or older (must provide documentation)
- Receive an industry certification, a state licensure or other portable workforce credential as defined by Achieve 2015 by taking occupational, non-credit courses, sequence of courses or assessments
Required Documentation Sources for the Unemployed
- Layoff letter
- Other verification by previous employer (i.e. phone call, etc)
- Proof of unemployment compensation determined by VED
- Verification from media source (related to previous employer)
- If previously self-employed, and no longer;
- IRS or business documentation
- Bankruptcy certification papers
