Technical Studies in Advanced Manufacturing and Packaging Technology - Associate of Applied Science Degree

Purpose

The Technical Studies degree program in Advanced Manufacturing and Packaging Technology prepares individuals to enter the advanced manufacturing workforce in a variety of entry-level career positions. The integration of electrical, mechanical, and computer technologies in today's complex automated systems environment has created a strong demand for multifunctional technicians. These technicians are responsible for the construction, setup, troubleshooting, operation and maintenance of advanced manufacturing systems. This program is based on national standards and focuses on the development of industry defined competencies and skills in: electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics, welding, machining, computers, machinery and control, manufacturing resource planning, teamwork, safety and quality.

Admission Information

Students whose placement test scores indicate the need to increase their level of proficiency in reading, writing and/or mathematics will be required to take appropriate developmental courses. Enrolling in developmental courses may increase the length of time necessary for completing the chosen course(s) or program of study, but will enhance the student's preparation for college-level coursework and increase the chances for successful attainment of academic, occupational and personal goals.

Admission Requirements

In addition to the general admission requirements to the College, applicants should be prepared for placement in College English and in mathematics at the Algebra 2 level or above.

Program Requirements

Students are required to complete six credit hours of work-based learning through a cooperative education or internship experience. The credit work-based learning experience must be approved by the Advanced Manufacturing and Packaging Technology Program Head and the student must register for a cooperative education and/or internship course. The course will be directed and assessed by a division faculty member.

Students must complete the required courses in the curriculum and achieve a 2.0 minimum grade point average to be awarded the A.A.S. Technical Studies in Advanced Manufacturing and Packaging Technology degree.
