Celebrating 50 Years!!
The institution was founded in 1962 and was first known as the Clifton Forge-Covington Division of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute. In 1965, a pre-college program was added to offer foundational classes to area residents and was expanded into the general community college program in 1966. The Virginia State Board for Community Colleges took over all programs in the summer of 1967. The institution was renamed Dabney S. Lancaster Community College to honor the prominent Virginia educator and longtime resident of the area that DSLCC serves.
