Educational Foundation Scholarships Page 2

 

Scholarships applicants must have maintained a satisfactory grade point average (GPA)  in order to be considered for an award.  Minimum GPA requirements vary and, in most cases, are set by the donor. Unless noted below, the scholarship requires a 2.75 minimum GPA.

Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce-Established by the Chamber in 2004 to assist with tuition expenses for a graduating senior from Alleghany or Covington High School who resides in the Alleghany Highlands and has made DSLCC their college of choice. Alleghany Regional Hospital Nursing Scholarship-Established by Alleghany Regional Hospital, this scholarship is awarded to a second-year DSLCC nursing student who is a resident of Alleghany County or the City of Covington. The recipient must agree to accept employment at ARH, if offered upon graduation, and to remain employed for at least one year at ARH following graduation from the DSLCC Nursing program. 3.5 GPA Required (application) (2008-2009 Recipient) (back to list)

Betty Andrews Memorial Nursing Scholarship-Established by the late Arch Bennett in memory of his dear friend who demonstrated a dedication to and love for others all her life, this scholarship is awarded to a first or second-year nursing student. (application) (2008-2009 Recipient) (back to list)
Dorothy Ayers Memorial Nursing Scholarship-Established by her husband and children to honor Mrs. Ayer's memory and her love of learning, this scholarship is awarded to a first or second-year DSLCC nursing student. A life-long resident of Alleghany County, Mrs. Ayers considered continuing education to be of the utmost importance. (application) (2008-2009 Recipient) (back to list)
BARC Electric Co-Op Scholarship-Established in 1999 by the BARC Electric Co-Op to assist a graduating senior from the College's service area who is pursuing a math or science curriculum. (application) (2008-2009 Recipient)  (back to list)
Tim Backels Scholarship-Established in 1981 by Dr. & Mrs. John Backels in memory of their son, Tim, a graduate of the former Clifton Forge High School,this scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from Alleghany High School who is enrolled in the College Preparatory curriculum, has an AHS varsity athletic letter, demonstrates leadership skills, and is involved in school and community affairs. (application) (2008-2009 Recipient) (back to list)

Bank of Botetourt Art By The James Scholarship-Established in 2004 to assist deserving students from James River, Lord Botetourt, Northside, Parry McCluer, or Rockbridge County High Schools, this scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who is pursuing a degree in Business or Fine Arts. Bridging the Gap--College to the Community Internship Scholarship-This scholarship was established by a gift from Judy Cunningham Dotson made in memory of her father, Ralph Linwood Cunningham. The scholarship will help provide current DSLCC students who have completed at least one-half of their curriculum requirments with the opportunity to seek hands-on learning experiences. 3.0 GPA Required.
